Sorry  to  say,  but  much  of  what’s  called  "Good News”  (regarding  pollution)  is  not,  actually,  good.

​​​1.  Everybody  likes  good  news,  especially  if  the  positive  development  doesn't  require  much  effort. ​

​​

​​

​

2.  Prolific pollution profiteers  promote  "Good  News"  stories  which  are  trivial,  misleading,  or  flat-out  false. ​

This  widespread,  and  persuasive,  practice  has  a  name:   "Green-washing”  (see  Advertising  &  PR  pages).​

It's  difficult  for  people  to  know  what's  legitimate  and  what's  phony!

3.  Many  greenwashing  stories  are  about  small-scale  experiments,  pilot-projects,  or  speculative  endeavors.

 Many  research  papers  -  announcing  a  type  of  "breakthrough"  -  end  up  being  worthwhile  failures. 

​​

 Disappointing  results  are  rarely  mentioned  in  the  media.   Please  see  the  Media  page.

 Often  the  problem  involves  money.   While  an  experiment  may  show  a  positive  outcome,  

​​

 real  world  implementation  ("scaling-up")  of  the  idea  may  be  far  too  expensive  to  be  practical.

4.  Greenwashing  leads  to  another  phenomena  -  "hope-ium”  -  when  people  feel  comforted  into

complacency  by  hoping  that  good-news/green-washing  stories  are  accurate.   See  the  Inaction page.

There  are  real,  True-to-God,  good  news  stories:   developments  that  significantly  reduce  pollution,

cost  not  too  much  money,  and  have  already  been  put  into  practice.
