  • ANSWERING  PRAYERS?

July, 2025 On the Fourth   of July, in Texas , at least a dozen school-girls drowned to death.  The news media covered this heartbreaking story in their usual manner, with lots of reporting about lots of details - but rarely mentioning WHY floods (and fires) are becoming more frequent.  An occasional story mentioned “climate change”,  and a few even said words like:  “human-caused climate change”, or “global warming”, or “the greenhouse effect”, or “human emissions”. Yet even on those occasions, no reporting - that I know of - explained where those emissions  come from, or HOW humans  cause  global warming (see more on this below). ====================================================== In response to the tragedy, local and national leaders suggested what should be done:  pray. Texas Senator Ted Cruz tweeted, “ Please pray right now”.  The acting Governor, Dan Patrick , asked people to “do some serious praying”.  I agree with this sentiment.  Like them, I have prayed.  What these leaders didn’t discuss is the possibility that our prayers may have gotten an answer. What if a God decided it would be a good thing to give humans a helping hand on this matter?  What if that God helped humans to find out the underlying reasons for an ever increasing frequency of extreme weather events?  What if God figured out a way to ensure that a bunch of scientists “discovered” information about how pollution changes the weather via atmospheric warming? But what if other humans didn’t want to hear the “message” sent by this thoughtful God? ====================================================== Around the same time those school-girls were choking their final breaths, scientific journals published two new studies concerning extreme weather.  The research indicates a likelihood that the Atlantic gulf stream is already undergoing significant changes due to greenhouse warming. This “can disturb the atmospheric   jet stream and storm activities, so it has implications for extreme weather events  in North America and Europe,” said one scientist. Another scientist wrote that the changes   can “alter the Southern Ocean’s capacity to sequester heat and carbon.” This new information confirms   that warming “may also play a role in changing rainfall patterns ”.  Such findings  “could be crucial when preparing societies for potential impacts   like extreme weather events   caused by the change.”  ====================================================== If humans cause  the greenhouse effect, then we can quit .   We emit pollution by: Burning kerosene ( jet fuel ) on airplane trips Burning gasoline   while driving automobiles Burning “natural” gas   in our houses And other   activities Despite our prayers, we can’t bring those school-girls back to life.  But we can help prevent the next God-awful tragedy.  So, let’s stop putting toxic pollution into our atmosphere - ok?
